Chip's Monday Matoaca Message: My First Blog Post

Welcome to my weekly blog. Every Monday, I plan to start the week by sharing a little about myself, what I believe is important to the citizens in Chesterfield County (in particular the Matoaca district), and finally, what "happenings" are scheduled for the week.

A little about myself: I grew up in Columbus, OH, and my wife Terri was raised in Wheaton, IL. I have siblings scattered about the country, and most of my extended family lives on or near the family farm where my father was raised near Lakeville, IN. I am proud of my Midwestern roots and the values instilled in me by my parents: integrity, hand work, humility, and a willingness to serve others.

I retired after a 40-year-career in Civil Engineering. Upon retirement, we moved from FL to Chesterfield County to be near our three grandchildren who also live in Chesterfield. We really enjoy living in Chesterfield County. The people are friendly, the weather is mild compared to the too-cold winters in the midwest and too-hot summers in Florida, and the rolling hills and forests are beautiful. There is plenty to do, and I enjoy serving as a volunteer girls lacrosse coach at Cosby HS.

Once established in Chesterfield, I began to see a disturbing trend of government indifference: overcrowded schools, inadequate roads, and wasteful spending. Most notably, irresponsible sprawl that was a threat to the standard of living that makes Chesterfield such a desirable place to live.

I am a firm believer in the American form of representative government. If you don’t like how the government is being run, you can vote for change. The most important responsibility of any citizen is to vote. The biggest threat to our government and way of life is an uninformed and disinterested populace either not voting and or voting blindly based on party or other affiliation. Given my perspective on the governance of Chesterfield County, I could not standby and allow the incumbent Matoaca Supervisor to be elected unopposed.

So here I find myself running as an independent candidate for Matoaca Supervisor. I am doing my part, and now I need voters to do their part: be informed, do your research, and vote in November. Please visit my website at to learn more about my priorities, and let me know how I can earn your vote in November.

If you haven’t registered to vote, do it now. It is quick and easy--all the resources you need can be found at Then do your duty and vote in the Fall-- either on election day or through early voting, which begins at select locations 45 days before the election. For more information on voting visit

Have a safe July 4th holiday! God bless America, the Commonwealth of VA, Chesterfield County, and all the citizens of Matoaca.

Thank You!

The voting is over, and what an adventure it has been. I have no regrets and am so thankful for all the good people I was able to meet and the new friends that I have made. Although we did not win,

Chesterfield: Better Together

Early voting is over, and Election Day is Tuesday. I had the pleasure of meeting and listening to hundreds of voters at the polls during early voting. It was very refreshing to hear from the voters
